What is water heater maintenance? Do I still need to check and flush my water heater every year you might ask? The answer is yes. As a water heater heats water some of the minerals, calcium and other stuff is cooked out of the water and settles on the bottom of the water heater, this means that with a gas water heater for example the heat from the water heaters burner has to try and transfer through all of those deposits before it can get to the water to heat it. What this means to you is that wasted energy turns into wasted dollars. If you are on a well and have sand in your water, you will also find that you are slowly filling your water heater up with sand and debris and losing tank capacity. As that happens you will notice you are running out of water more frequently as the sand and minerals take up more space. The best thing you can do is have one of our licensed plumbers come out and perform our 30 point plumbing inspection which includes flushing the water heater. The other things that are checked on a service call are proper operation of the safety features that will keep it from exploding in a worst-case scenario, and also proper operation of both heating elements or the burner(s).
