Signs your furnace or heater needs repair

Furnaces rarely quit without warning. Most give signs for weeks first: a new noise, a room that never warms up, a burner that takes a few tries to light. Catching those early usually means a smaller repair and no cold night waiting for a fix.

If any of these sound familiar, give us a call. And if you smell gas or your carbon monoxide alarm goes off, get everyone outside first and call 911 and your gas company from there.

How a Drake furnace and heater repair works

We send journeyman technicians who work on every common kind of furnace: gas, electric, propane and oil, from older single-stage units to modern variable-speed systems.

The technician who diagnoses the problem is the one who explains it. There’s no sales team and no pressure. You get a clear price before any work starts, and our labor is backed by a one-year warranty.

Wall heater, floor furnace and oil furnace repair

Plenty of Treasure Valley homes still heat with a wall furnace, a floor furnace or an oil-fired furnace. We repair and service all of them.

  • Wall furnaces and wall heaters: gas, electric and direct-vent models, including Williams units, plus venting problems and noisy operation.
  • Floor furnaces: older gravity floor furnaces, pilot and burner problems, thermostats and cleaning. We can often find Williams parts, covers and grates to keep a classic unit running safely.
  • Oil furnaces: burner repair, nozzles and filters, clogged lines and annual tune-ups.

If one of these older units is beyond repair, we’ll show you replacement options that keep your home’s layout and heating style.

Repair or replace your furnace?

Most furnaces last somewhere around 15 to 20 years. If yours is younger and the repair is reasonable, repairing it usually makes sense. If it’s older, needs repairs every winter, or the repair costs a large share of a new system, replacing it may be the better value.

Either way, you’ll hear both options honestly. New heating and cooling equipment comes with our One-Year Buy-Back Guarantee: if you’re not 100% satisfied in the first year, we’ll buy it back. Financing is available for residential customers.

Needed a boiler serviced and had Drake Mechanical out before as I knew they serviced residential boilers. … Bryce the boiler tech was knowledgeable, friendly and professional and completed the service quickly and efficiently. They took the time to walk through everything they serviced and also adjusted the price from the original quote because some items were not required … Would highly recommend Drake for plumbing and mechanical service.

We recently hired Drake Mechanical to inspect and repair the radiant heat system in our shop. From the beginning, they were prompt and professional. They arrived when they said they would and took the time to explain what they were doing and why. Kevin and his assistant worked efficiently and clearly knew what they were doing. … It’s rare to find a company that combines technical skill with excellent customer service. We’d highly recommend.

Common questions

Have a question that isn’t here? Call us any time at (208) 362-6200.

How much does furnace repair cost?

It depends on what’s wrong. A dirty flame sensor or a failed igniter is a much smaller job than a blower motor or a control board. Your technician diagnoses the problem first and gives you a clear price before any work starts, so you decide whether to go ahead.

Why does my furnace keep turning on and off?

Short cycling is often caused by a clogged filter, a dirty flame sensor, a furnace that’s overheating, or a thermostat problem. Start by checking your filter. If it’s clean and the furnace still cycles every few minutes, call us: running that way wears out parts and wastes fuel.

Should I repair or replace my furnace?

Most furnaces last somewhere around 15 to 20 years. If yours is younger than that and the repair is reasonable, repairing it usually makes sense. If it’s older, needs repairs every winter, or the repair costs a large share of a new system, replacing it may save you money. Your technician will lay out both options honestly. There’s no separate sales team. New heating equipment comes with our One-Year Buy-Back Guarantee, and financing is available.

Do you repair all furnace brands?

Yes. We work on all major makes and models of gas, electric, propane and oil furnaces, including older wall and floor furnaces.

Do you offer emergency service?

Yes. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for plumbing, heating and air conditioning emergencies. Call or text (208) 362-6200.

What should I do if I smell gas or my carbon monoxide alarm goes off?

Get everyone out of the house right away, leave doors open behind you, and don’t switch lights or appliances on or off. From outside, call 911 and your gas company. Once it’s safe, call us and we’ll find and fix the cause.

Fast. Friendly. Fixed.
