Why a yearly furnace tune-up is worth it
Most furnace breakdowns start small: a dirty flame sensor, a worn igniter, a clogged filter making the system overheat. A tune-up finds those problems while they’re still quick fixes, before they leave you without heat on the coldest night of the year.
It’s also a safety check. Your technician inspects the heat exchanger for cracks and tests the safety controls, so you can head into winter knowing the furnace is running the way it should. And many manufacturers’ warranties expect yearly maintenance.
How a furnace service visit works
Your technician works through the furnace from the burner to the blower, cleans what needs cleaning, and tells you anything that’s worn or close to failing. If something needs a repair, you get a clear price first and decide whether to go ahead.

5 out of 5 stars
Needed a boiler serviced and had Drake Mechanical out before as I knew they serviced residential boilers. … Bryce the boiler tech was knowledgeable, friendly and professional and completed the service quickly and efficiently. They took the time to walk through everything they serviced and also adjusted the price from the original quote because some items were not required … Would highly recommend Drake for plumbing and mechanical service.

5 out of 5 stars
We recently hired Drake Mechanical to inspect and repair the radiant heat system in our shop. From the beginning, they were prompt and professional. They arrived when they said they would and took the time to explain what they were doing and why. Kevin and his assistant worked efficiently and clearly knew what they were doing. … It’s rare to find a company that combines technical skill with excellent customer service. We’d highly recommend.

Common questions
Have a question that isn’t here? Call us any time at (208) 362-6200.
How often should my furnace be serviced?
Once a year, ideally in the fall before the heating season starts. A tune-up catches worn parts before they fail on a cold night and keeps the furnace running efficiently. Drake Duck Club members get two inspections a year.
When is the best time for a furnace tune-up?
Early fall, before the first cold snap. Your furnace gets checked before it has to work hard, and you avoid the rush of calls that comes with the first freezing nights. Air conditioners are best checked in spring.
Are tune-ups included in the Drake Duck Club?
Yes. Every Duck Club plan includes two inspections a year, plus priority service, no service call fee during regular hours and lower rates on repairs. Compare the plans.
What should I do if I smell gas or my carbon monoxide alarm goes off?
Get everyone out of the house right away, leave doors open behind you, and don’t switch lights or appliances on or off. From outside, call 911 and your gas company. Once it’s safe, call us and we’ll find and fix the cause.
