Signs your blower motor is failing
The blower motor is the heart of your heating and cooling system: it pushes warm or cool air through your ducts. When it wears out, your furnace or air conditioner may run without heating or cooling the house at all.
How a Drake blower motor repair works
Our technicians diagnose both older PSC motors and high-efficiency ECM motors, and test the start capacitor too, since a failing capacitor can mimic a bad motor and costs far less to fix. We repair, clean, rebuild or replace motors to restore full function.
You get your options and a clear price before any work starts.
Upgrade from a PSC to an ECM motor
Many homeowners don’t realize that replacing an older permanent split capacitor (PSC) motor with an electronically commutated motor (ECM) can cut energy use and improve comfort from the furnace or air conditioner they already have. An ECM moves air at a low, quiet speed, smoothing out temperature swings and helping your air filter and humidifier work better. We’ll evaluate your system and tell you whether the upgrade is worth it.
Well pump and other electric motors
We also repair and replace electric motors on well pumps, sump pumps and other residential and light commercial equipment. See well and sump pumps.

5 out of 5 stars
Needed a boiler serviced and had Drake Mechanical out before as I knew they serviced residential boilers. … Bryce the boiler tech was knowledgeable, friendly and professional and completed the service quickly and efficiently. They took the time to walk through everything they serviced and also adjusted the price from the original quote because some items were not required … Would highly recommend Drake for plumbing and mechanical service.

5 out of 5 stars
We recently hired Drake Mechanical to inspect and repair the radiant heat system in our shop. From the beginning, they were prompt and professional. They arrived when they said they would and took the time to explain what they were doing and why. Kevin and his assistant worked efficiently and clearly knew what they were doing. … It’s rare to find a company that combines technical skill with excellent customer service. We’d highly recommend.

Common questions
Have a question that isn’t here? Call us any time at (208) 362-6200.
How do I know if my furnace blower motor is failing?
Weak or no airflow from the vents, a humming, squealing or grinding sound, a burning smell, or a system that runs but doesn’t heat or cool the house. A failing start capacitor can cause the same symptoms and is a much smaller repair, so we test both.
What’s the difference between a PSC and an ECM blower motor?
A PSC (permanent split capacitor) motor is the older, simpler design and runs at one or a few fixed speeds. An ECM (electronically commutated motor) adjusts its speed, uses less electricity, runs more quietly and smooths out temperature swings. Upgrading from PSC to ECM can lower energy use with the furnace or air conditioner you already have.
Do you repair other electric motors?
Yes. Besides furnace and air conditioner blower motors, we repair and replace motors on well pumps, sump pumps and other residential and light commercial equipment, including cleaning and rebuilding where it makes sense.
Do you offer emergency service?
Yes. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for plumbing, heating and air conditioning emergencies. Call or text (208) 362-6200.
