When you need a gas line
A new gas appliance only works as well as the line that feeds it. An undersized line can leave a range, furnace or tankless water heater starved for gas, and an old or damaged line is a safety risk.
If you smell gas, leave the house first and call 911 and your gas company from outside.
How a Drake gas line job works
Our licensed plumbers work with natural gas, propane and fuel oil. We calculate the right pipe size for the appliances you have now and the ones you may add, install the piping, including flexible corrugated stainless steel (CSST) where it suits the job, add a shut-off at each appliance, and pressure test the line before it goes into use.
For new natural gas service, we work with Intermountain Gas on the hookup.
Fire pits, grills and outdoor kitchens
We run gas lines to fire pits, fire tables, built-in grills, smokers, patio heaters and outdoor kitchens, underground where needed, with a shut-off at each appliance so you can turn each one off for the season.
Converting to natural gas
Switching from propane, heating oil or electric to natural gas is a project we manage from start to finish: the new service with Intermountain Gas, underground and interior piping, and the appliances. Many propane furnaces and water heaters can be converted with a kit; electric ones usually need to be replaced with gas models. See furnace replacement and water heater replacement.
Fuel oil lines and tank removal
Some Treasure Valley homes still heat with fuel oil. We repair and replace fuel oil lines, and when you switch to natural gas or electric heat, we remove the old lines and tank.

Josh and his crew (Oscar and Levi) came out to install my new water heater and repipe my entire home. It was 3 days and they did a fantastic job! I will add that my drywall guy came to make some repairs and he also said they did a fantastic job! Thank you again to the entire team!

We were having low water pressure from our kitchen faucet and tried changing the cartridge and the wand and a few other things with no success. Thomas Conley came out and fixed problem within an hour. Now our water pressure is back to normal and we are extremely happy. Thomas is very professional and knowledgeable. Very happy with Drake Mechanical

Common questions
Have a question that isn’t here? Call us any time at (208) 362-6200.
Why does gas line sizing matter?
Every gas appliance needs a certain volume of gas. If the line is too small for everything connected to it, appliances can run poorly, light unreliably or shut off. We calculate the right size for the appliances you have now and the ones you might add later.
Can you add a gas line for a new range or dryer?
Yes. We extend your existing gas piping to a new range, dryer, fireplace, water heater or furnace, sized for the added load, with a shut-off valve at the appliance, and test for leaks before we leave.
Can you run a gas line to my fire pit or grill?
Yes. We run natural gas and propane lines to outdoor fire pits, fire tables, built-in grills, patio heaters and outdoor kitchens, with a shut-off valve at each one, and pressure test the line before it goes into use.
Can I switch my home from propane or electric to natural gas?
Often, yes, if natural gas is available at your street. We work with Intermountain Gas on the new service, run the piping, and convert or replace your appliances. Many propane furnaces and water heaters can be converted with a kit; electric furnaces and water heaters usually need to be replaced with gas models.
What should I do if I smell gas or my carbon monoxide alarm goes off?
Get everyone out of the house right away, leave doors open behind you, and don’t switch lights or appliances on or off. From outside, call 911 and your gas company. Once it’s safe, call us and we’ll find and fix the cause.
