Water shut-off valve on a wall

Why an automatic shut-off is worth having

A burst pipe or a failed washing machine hose can release a lot of water in a short time, and most leaks happen when no one is watching: overnight, at work or on vacation. By the time someone notices, floors, drywall and belongings can be soaked, and mold can follow.

How a WaterCop system works

A motorized valve on your main water line is connected to leak sensors placed where water is most likely to escape. When a sensor gets wet, the valve closes and shuts off the water to the whole house. Systems can also close the valve when water runs longer or in a larger amount than normal, which catches a burst pipe even where there’s no sensor.

We recommend sensor placements for your home, install the valve and sensors, and show you how to reset and test the system.

Main and appliance shut-off valves

Every home needs a main shut-off valve that closes fully and easily. We replace stuck or leaking main valves, add a shut-off with a drain for your water heater, and install washing machine shut-off valves so a burst hose can be stopped quickly. Leak right now? See emergency plumbing.

Josh and his crew (Oscar and Levi) came out to install my new water heater and repipe my entire home. It was 3 days and they did a fantastic job! I will add that my drywall guy came to make some repairs and he also said they did a fantastic job! Thank you again to the entire team!

We were having low water pressure from our kitchen faucet and tried changing the cartridge and the wand and a few other things with no success. Thomas Conley came out and fixed problem within an hour. Now our water pressure is back to normal and we are extremely happy. Thomas is very professional and knowledgeable. Very happy with Drake Mechanical

Common questions

Have a question that isn’t here? Call us any time at (208) 362-6200.

How does an automatic water shut-off valve work?

A motorized valve on your main water line closes automatically when a leak sensor gets wet, or when water flows for longer or in a larger amount than normal, such as after a burst pipe or a broken washer hose. It stops the water before it floods the house, even when no one is home.

Where do leak sensors go?

Wherever water is most likely to escape: next to the water heater, under sinks, behind the washing machine, beside the dishwasher and refrigerator, and near the sump pump or main shut-off. We’ll recommend placements for your home.

How do I shut off the water to my house?

Find your main shut-off valve. It’s usually where the water line enters the house: in a basement, crawl space, utility room or garage, often near the water heater. Turn a round handle clockwise until it stops, or turn a lever handle a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe. If you can’t find it or it won’t turn, call us and we’ll talk you through it.
