Expansion tanks and the parts around the water heater
Homes with a pressure-reducing valve or a backflow preventer usually need a thermal expansion tank, which absorbs the pressure that builds as water heats and protects the tank, valves and fixtures. We install and replace expansion tanks, shut-off valves, relief valves, drain pans and venting along with your new water heater.

Should I get a tank or a tankless water heater?
A tank water heater costs less to install and works well for most homes. A tankless water heater heats water on demand, so you don’t run out during back-to-back showers, it takes up less space and typically lasts longer, but it costs more up front. We’ll compare both for your home and how your family uses hot water.
What size water heater do I need?
It depends on how many people live in your home, how many bathrooms you have and when everyone uses hot water. A 40- or 50-gallon tank suits many homes; bigger households may need more, or a tankless unit. We’ll help you choose the right size rather than just matching the old one.
Do I need an expansion tank on my water heater?
If your home has a pressure-reducing valve or a backflow preventer on the main water line, the water heater usually needs an expansion tank to absorb the pressure that builds as water heats. Without one, pressure can stress the tank, valves and fixtures. We’ll check when we install your new water heater.
How long does a water heater last?
A tank water heater typically lasts around 8 to 12 years, depending on your water and how well it’s been maintained. Tankless water heaters often last longer. A yearly flush and a check of the anode rod help any water heater last as long as possible.
