Signs your swamp cooler needs service
An evaporative cooler only cools when its pads stay wet and air moves through them. When the pump, float, motor or water line fails, it blows warm air, leaks or stops altogether. Regular maintenance prevents most of these problems, along with leaks and motor burnout.
How a Drake swamp cooler repair works
Our technicians diagnose and repair all makes and models, from pump and motor replacements to fill, float and overflow valves, water lines and shut-off valves. Preventive maintenance and descaling keep your cooler at its best efficiency.
You get your options and a clear price before any work starts.
New evaporative coolers for homes, shops and warehouses
As authorized Breezair dealers, we install high-efficiency evaporative coolers with corrosion-proof cabinets, reliable pumps, non-clogging water distribution and quiet operation, including the Icon and variable-speed EXV series. Evaporative cooling is an economical way to cool with fresh, humidified air, especially for large spaces like shops and warehouses.
Spring startup and winterizing
Each fall we drain and winterize coolers so they don’t freeze and crack, and each spring we start them back up, clean the pan, check the pads, pump, float and belt, and make sure water flows correctly. Prefer refrigerated air? See AC installation.

We had an excellent experience with Drake Mechanical. We needed a wine cellar AC split system repaired and they were able to help us out (apparently this requires a specialist). We appreciate their timely and professional repair.

This is the second time Bryce has done repairs on my AC. He is so kind & knowledgeable and is thorough in explaining the issue and how it is being fixed. AC units are too expensive to replace & I appreciate that Bryce found other solutions.

Common questions
Have a question that isn’t here? Call us any time at (208) 362-6200.
Why is my swamp cooler blowing warm air?
Usually the pads aren’t getting wet: a failed water pump, a stuck float valve, a clogged distribution line or the water shut off. Dried-out or scaled-up pads and a weak motor also cut cooling. On very humid days, any evaporative cooler cools less. We’ll find and fix the cause.
Does a swamp cooler need to be winterized?
Yes. Before the first freeze, the water supply should be shut off and drained, the pan drained and cleaned, and the cooler covered or the duct sealed so warm air doesn’t escape all winter. In spring it needs to be started back up and checked. We do both.
Is a swamp cooler or an air conditioner better?
In Boise’s dry summers, an evaporative cooler cools well, uses far less electricity than an air conditioner and brings in fresh, humidified air. It cools less on humid days and doesn’t remove moisture. Many homes and shops use one; some use both. We service both and can help you decide.
Do you offer emergency service?
Yes. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for plumbing, heating and air conditioning emergencies. Call or text (208) 362-6200.
